I first discovered Joseph Altuzarra back in February when designers were presenting their fall/winter collections. Instantly I was drawn to his aesthetic, the collection was simplistic but rich in color, construction and style. I very much loved the attitude of his collection, it was polished and sophisticated, but in no way intimidating, featuring pieces that women will wear now or 5 years from now.
Now here we are in September (can u believe it), I have been riveted by all the amazing collections that have debuted so far! For his spring/summer 2015 collection, Altuzarra cited the films Rosemary’s Baby (still creeps me out to this day) and Barry Lyndon as inspiration. Above I featured some of my favorite looks from his collection. Now I’ve never thought of gingham as being pretty and polished, but some how that’s how it looked as models made their way down the runway in soft and pretty pink and baby-blue gingham dresses and skirt-suits. The collection also featured stripes and more stripes – (in dresses, shirts and pencil skirts with risqué thigh-high slits), as well as flowy tiered floral maxi-gowns with plunging necklines.
Overall it was a beautiful show, I absolutely loved the collection and he is easily now a new addition to my list favorite designers. Earlier this year Altuzarra was awarded CFDA’s womenswear designer of the year award and he has partnered with Target to introduce a limited-edition collection of women’s ready-to-wear & accessories for fall 2014 (available September 14th) – clearly this year is his year!
