Would You Wear It?: Overalls at Work

Would You Wear It?: Overalls at Work

So quick question…casual Friday is tomorrow, have you ever considered wearing overalls to work?

I know! Wearing overalls to work sounds crazy, (at least it did to me when I initially thought about it). So I looked into it, and these aren’t your typical farmer’s overalls. This classic has been given a much-needed upgrade so one can easily pull off this stylish spring trend at the office.

While overalls may seem unlikely as far as work wear goes, you CAN style ’em in a way that offers that put-together polish required for the work place. I am completely inspired by these refreshingly original looks featured above. The leather overalls as worn by Miroslava Duma, i mean how chic is that; the denim-on-denim look (person unknown), is a true classic; monochromatic white on Hanneli Mustaparta is crisp and clean; and finally the 70s chic look donned by Aimee Song (of Song of Style one of my fave fashion blogger) is right on trend for this season with this 70s flare number.

However what are your thoughts, would you wear it?

Tricky Trend: Sheer Blouse

Tricky Trend: Sheer Blouse

At times donning a sheer top in the harsh light of day can come across a bit inappropriate, but only when done incorrectly! For anyone feeling rather dauntless, here’s an idea of how to pull off daytime-sheer in a way that is not at all aggressive.

Layer a flowy blouse over either a tank top or crop top, team with a pair of slouchy tapered pants, and finally add a pair of embellished heels for a stylish daytime look — a perfect outfit for this coming spring.

Sweater Weather: Plum Cashmere

Color of Fashion: Plum

Perfect for sweater weather is the sophisticated, warm and decadently soft plum cashmere sweater. This deep and richly regal hued sweater that features a feminine scoop neckline, breezy side slits and a high/low hemline is all that is needed to inject luxury into your wardrobe.

Lightweight yet cozy, this cashmere pullover is great for every stylish woman. Easily throw it on everywhere you go; with its relaxed fit it’ll make for a great on-go-the weekend brunch look; balance the over-sized fit with leather leggings adding a sophisticated vibe for an uptown event; or layer it over your favorite simple basics (tank, camisole) for a laid-back casual look – is plum a color you would wear?

Sweater Weather: 1 Sweater 3 Ways!

Black cashmere sweaters. V-necks, turtlenecks, crew-necks. We all have one we champion – in a particular color, fabrication or neckline that is favored over others. Personally, I love black V-neck sweaters and as we are in the midst of sweater weather here are 3 different ways in which to style this timeless layering piece.

Off To A Meeting

For the office, add a blazer to your look of monochrome separates (a black V-neck sweater and black fitted jeans) offering structure and polish for the perfect balance of not being too overdressed, or too underdressed.

Out w/ The Girls

Going to see Gone Girl this weekend? For stylish and simplistic ease, a black V-neck sweater pairs well with faded grey off-duty denim and a pair of point-toe flats.

Weekend Daze

While running errands, look comfortable and well put together as you brave the brisk autumn air, by teaming a black V-neck sweater with fitted cropped pants, a cross body handbag and a fab pair of loafers – which is sure to bring an element of polish/sophistication to your weekend style.

What’s your favorite sweater?

Put Your Best Foot Forward On Casual Friday

Casual Day

So today I received an email requesting some insight into what would be a good alternative to wearing flip-flops into the office on Casual Friday. Now this is a good inquiry mainly because, while flip-flops are practical (easy to slip on, tucks away nicely into a handbag), you look less than professional stepping into the office wearing a pair.

There are quite a few alternatives that are office-appropriate:

  • Point-toed flats
  • Open-toed flats
  • Wedges
  •  T-strapped sandals

Another idea could include paring your best fitting jeans and a crisp button-down shirt with a pair of loafers, like the ones featured above. They’re simple, sophisticated, stylish, and offers up the casual put-togetherness that flip-flops does not in a work place environment. I also like ’em because they’re so multi-faceted, capable of taking you from the high-octane corporate world to running mundane errands on the weekends. Much like nude pumps, I believe that a great pair of loafers could also be a footwear staple for the young professional woman…

The New Crop

The New Crops

Back this season, are the re-imagined, dangerously chic, wide-legged cropped pant (a.k.a culottes). This casual cut is not for the fashion timid, and are a fav amongst the fashion forward celebrity regulars. They look best when paired with fitted knits, a shrunken jacket, or boxy tops to balance the width of the pants. Instyle Magazine asserts that the most flattering length is an inch above the ankle, they go on to state that because this cut can be a bit overwhelming (particularly on a shorter frame), they should be teamed with heels. However the question remains, would you wear it?
