What do you get when you take your best fitting skinny jeans, add an easy-going button down, throw on a nice cross-body handbag, and compete the look with a comfortable and trendy pair of leather sides?

The day has finally arrived: You have been invited to an intimate dinner to meet the parents! You only have one chance to make a first impression so what will you wear?
Find yourself faced with the dreaded what-to-wear dilemma for arguable the biggest night of the year?
Well no look –especially for a New Year’s Eve (only 3 weeks away) is complete without a bit of sequins. Whether you bring in the new year donning a chic sequins cape, a gleaming pair of tapered track pants, a shimmering flirty dress, or a glamorous maxi skirt (my personal fave), know that you’ll be a shoo-in for best dressed at the party!!
Over this past weekend I got the shock of my life when my quick-witted, compulsive shopping aunt (Donna) came to visit me. I was very happy to see her — after I got over the initial astonishment of finding her in the lobby of my building!!
We went out to eat a couple of times but we spend the bulk of our time together laughing and shopping, specifically at Macy’s. I know most people will wait ’til Black Friday (or for the doorbuster sales starting after Thanksgiving dinner) to do their holiday shopping.
However, if you wish to avoid the obscene amounts of people who are sure to be out Thursday night and all of Friday, there are really great deals available now. I was in desperate need of a new pair of boots, so we browsed Macy’s footwear department for a while but it didn’t take very long before my aunt spotted the Nine West over-the-knee boots (featured above) that she bought for me . They’re the perfect casual everyday boot, in a great neutral color — thanks aunt Donna! 🙂
I definitely recommend checking out what’s happening at Macy’s
The cocoon coat has officially re-emerged as a trend to tackle for fall. The unique loose-fitting, slightly oversized silhouette gives off a stylish & effortless “just throw it on and go” nonchalant attitude, which pairs perfectly with black pumps, skinny jeans and a luxe cream (or any other neutral colored) cashmere sweater.
What does a turtleneck; loafers and a textured-leather back pack all have in common? They all team well with leather pants, or in this instance – leather track pants! Pairing all these items (in a muted color palette) makes for a slightly sporty and cool weekend look that will go from day to evening.
How are you updating your look this fall? One worthy and trendy investment that I’ve seen come to the fore is the slightly over-sized, perfect for layering, long and lean blazer vest.
This street-chic staple is the perfect transitional item from day-to-evening. Wear it over crisp and tailored monochrome separates (at the office) for a clean and polished look, or style this tricky trend with bold accessories (chunky gold bangles) and a pair of leather leggings for a sophisticated downtown date night look! Could this mid-weight, contemporary statement topper be a look that you would induct into your wardrobe?
I can’t think of a piece of outerwear that’s more iconic, classic – (traditional even), than the peacoat. With a slimmer fit that nips in at the waist for a more feminine iteration, this stylish and tailored upgrade will bring an updated polish to any look.
Join The Military
Ready to add a bit of edge to your fall wardrobe? Why not start with a military-inspired coat. One that features buttoned epaulettes, notched lapels and large flap pockets; you’ll look armed and dangerously fashionable – will you accept the mission and take utilitarian to a higher level of chic?
Take a double-breasted coat, add a bit of sophistication and elegance, you’ll then end up with a beautiful and timelessly structured coat boasting satin trims, the kind of statement topper that easily transitions from office meeting to gallery opening.
